Want good food? Want fusion? Want friendly servers? Want a nice ambiance restaurant? This is it! They also do dine LA, give them a try! Their AC seems to be down on the front side of the restaurant, so it was rough eating hot broth but it was overall good besides eating in the heat!
An absolutely incredible experience from start to finish with the Bone Kettle team. We were a dinner party of 14 celebrating our engagement on Saturday, July 13. We worked on making a set menu for our party, and Thea was so helpful with getting our reservation locked in. Communication was clear and straight forward, which made things easy for us. The biggest hits during our dinner were the oxtail dumplings, wings, bone broth & noodles, and the beef ribs! Because we were a larger party, we assumed there would be some gaps between servings. Sometimes it's hard to time the food in a busy restaurant during a Saturday dinner service. However, everything came out in a timely manner. We all ate together and got to experience each dish together as a family. The food came out hot and delicious. Presentation was absolutely killer. Serving sizes are about 1:4 shareable. So we had more than enough food. We took leftovers home and enjoyed them reheated. I will attach photos for reference. They even printed out the set menus for us to give it a personal feel. The service was also outstanding. We had one main server, but there was a team of them that took care of our party. They refilled our waters consistently. Everything came out correct and seamless. It went smoother than I could have ever anticipated. The only thing I will mention is that the indoor back patio area does get quite warm on hot days. However, it does serve as the most beautiful spot to sit in the restaurant. The string lights are such a vibe!!!! So although it was warm to sit out there, everything else about our experience was so wonderful that this was the least of our concerns. We had a great time. I would 10/10 recommend this place to celebrate any special occasion. We will certainly be back to celebrate more events with Bone Kettle. Salamat, Bone Kettle!!!!
I've been eyeing this place for a while and I finally got to go since it looked aesthetically pleasing. It's definitely a bit on the pricier side and the food looks good but it's not mindblowing. The servers are really nice once we sat down but they refused to seat us until every single party member was there so we were waiting outside in the sun. We had 5 people total. We had a reservation in advance as well. I really liked the salted egg shrimp, but the oxtail hash was a little dry. I think the ambiance and vibe of this place is nice but for food I think it's just alright. Parking in Downtown Pas is not easy so you should research lots ahead to find the best deal as they're not all the same hourly rate.
I've returned for dinner a few more times. Service and drinks are still great. Consistency might be an issue when it comes to the food, but the taste has been solid overall. - Java Martini, Kuya's Gimlet, Mandarin Sour, and Moon Orchid were tasty cocktails at $13-14 each. - Eggplants ($17). I enjoyed this dish even though I forget what the sauce tasted like. - Ube Gnocchi ($21). I didn't think the gnocchi tasted too much like ube, but it had good texture. Cherries added a nice pop of sweetness, and I liked the squash. I thought this dish came with some kind of mushroom, but apparently the brown stuff was pork. I don't recall what the creamy sauce tasted like except that it was good. - Clams & Donuts ($18). I didn't taste the "buttery black pepper sauce", but I thought the broth was great: oceany and umami, maybe a touch salty. The clams were tender. I would have appreciated an additional piece of Chinese donut to soak up the broth. It was harder to share for a party of 4. - Braised Ox Tail Bone Kettle Noodles & Broth ($38). I was not looking forward to ordering this again, but the difference was night and day. Unlike my first visit, the oxtail was tender and not too salty. The broth was also more flavorful. Even though the website says they boil beef bones, I thought the soup tasted like chicken and aromatics. The ramen noodles were the same, but they worked better this time around with the soup. - Gule Featured Special ($19 + $12 short rib add-on). This Indonesian yellow curry was dark brown in color, with a thin soup-like consistency. The dish was savory and tasty. I enjoyed the kabocha squash and other vegetables. The melinjo (seed or nut, I'm not sure) chips were fun, and the short rib was good too. - Cassava Cake ($10). I've had cassava cake before. Bone Kettle's version was just okay. I disliked the oddly sour taste of the cassava part. The ice cream was fine.
First time here and came with a small group (6) for a girlfriends birthday. I didn't know what to expect but I was blown away. The cocktails were tasty but keep in mind they are all a soju blend of some other liquor. They will be lighter but still tasty. I had bone marrow for the first time and my taste buds were elated to try this new food! Served with small greens and bread you're sure to enjoy.
Food: Bone Kettle is a great place to try diverse dishes! Although the portions are not large, the dishes are great for sharing. The cauliflowers is one of our favorites with its great flavor and dressing. The bone marrow is yummy, but is not the most flavorful compared to other LA locations. The steak tartare is great, but not worth it for the price in my opinion. The nasi goreng is delicious and as yummy as the ribeye was, I would probably get it without meat the next time, due to its steep price. Service: Service was average. They were efficient in getting rid of our dishes and refilling our waters, but it also felt rushed as they would constantly ask us if we are done (even when we still had food on our plates). It made it hard to feel fully comfortable when eating. Ambiance: We love the ambiance of Bone Kettle! It's definitely on the darker side unless you eat in the courtyard, but it's great to chat with friends or go on a date night.
I found Bone Kettle while a searching for a place for Father's Day brunch. The menu looked intriguing and appeared to have items that my family would enjoy. Reservations on Yelp was a plus. We arrived early for our reservation. The host asked that we sit at the bar for a few minutes while they prepared our table. The place was very busy. It was filled to capacity with a constant flow of customers checking in. The staff seemed to be handling it all relatively well, but the overall service did suffer some issues. Cold water was served, and our order taken shortly after being seated. We asked to have the Fried Chicken & Donuts as an appetizer, which was easily accommodated and came out fairly quicky. The rest of our order took longer than expected, with each one coming out several minutes apart. This turned out ok as we decided to share everything. The food is interesting. The Paloma fried chicken wings were nicely seasoned and very crispy. The Chinese donuts were light but were almost tasteless. We didn't care much for the spicy butter. The Steak n' Eggs were ok. The accompanying grilled sourdough was quite good, but the bone marrow butter tasted weird. They did not have bananas for the Nutella Banana French Toast. They were replaced with strawberries. It had nice flavor but was a bit dry. It would have been better with some butter and syrup. Their signature dish, Bone Kettle Bone Broth & Noodles was standout delicious! We chose to have it with the Braised Oxtail which was so flavorful and incredibly tender. We would absolutely return just for that. It took a while to get our check but that was not a big deal. We have found that most restaurants struggle during these types of weekends, so we try to extend some understanding, especially when the staff is noticeably working very hard to keep up. There is a standard 20% tip/service charge added to every dine-in check. This is on their website and at the bottom of the menu. Parking in Pasadena is easy in the many structures in the area. We parked at one on Union just a couple minutes' walk to the restaurant for a flat rate of $11.
Blown away by this restaurant! I had been wanting to check it out for a while and so happy I did. Modern Indonesian food inside of a zen and vibey space. We came on a Wednesday early-evening with a reservation, and it started off fairly empty but towards the end of our meal the place was fully packed. There were still lots of tables outside, but if you prefer to dine inside then i recommend a reservation just to be safe. The staff were very friendly, attentive, and helpful. The menus had lots of options and we were pleased with everything! The food is fresh and very flavorful, it's a party in your mouth. I'm already looking forward to our next visit back, although I think we will probably order the same things for a while b/c we are obsessed! So much to try overall and vegan options as well. Starters: Oxtail tips: 8/10 tangy and delicious, not as meaty as I anticipated Blue Crab Toast: 9/10 Nasi Goreng w/Wagyu: 10/10 You will never forget this dish. It was so satisfying and the steak was beautifully cooked and top quality. Black Pepper Crab on Stir Fried Garlic Soba Noodles: 10/10 Another unforgettable dish. I love garlic and was delighted by how much garlic and herbs were used. The crab was served ready to eat so you didn't get messy. The portions are plentiful/shareable. Cassava Cake w/Ube ice cream: 8/10 Light and tasty. Not overly sweet. I can't remember the names of the cocktails but they were pretty good. All sake, soju, beer, and wine. No hard liquor. Side note: I really appreciated how clean and modern the restrooms were. Also zen music and lovely scents were a nice touch. There is street parking and a parking structure nearby.
